Zimbabwe 3-1 Lesotho

HARARE – Zimbabwe took a commanding advantage in the first leg of their third round African Nations Championship qualifier with victory over visiting Lesotho at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Prince Dube opened the scoring with a firm header from Phineas Bamusi’s cross after 21 minutes.

Partson Jaure rose highest in a crowded box to double the Warriors’ advantage with a headed goal from a corner on the hour mark before Wellington Taderera buried a low shot six minutes from the end.

Zimbabwe, who barely had to get out of their stride despite the healthy lead, then conceded a last-minute penalty which was dispatched by Mhlopo Kalake to give Lesotho a glimmer of hope ahead of the return leg next month.

The African Nations Championship tournament is reserved for players playing in domestic leagues and the finals are in Cameroon next January.

Zimbabwe are targeting a fifth appearance at the finals, while Lesotho – who dumped South Africa in the last round – are bidding for their first.
