HARARE – A new weekly business newspaper is set to be launched in Zimbabwe – the second in less than a year.
The Business Times, set to launch before the end of June, will be edited by Happiness Zengeni, who recently quit as editor of the Business Weekly, launched last July by Zimpapers.
Little is known about the Business Times’ publishers, but the newspaper has already put its website live with regular news updates.
Zengeni said the launch would be “very soon”, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa expected as a key speaker at the launch.
The Business Times, whose dummy bears a start resemblance to the Financial Times of the UK, is a printed on pink paper in the Berliner format.
The newspaper’s owners have snapped up a printing machine owned by Home Affairs Minister Obert Mpofu. The machine used to print the minister’s Zimbabwe Mail newspaper which folded three years ago.
The entry of the Business Times brings to four the number of business-focused newspapers in Zimbabwe, all of them weekly. The Financial Gazette, the Zimbabwe Independent and the Business Weekly are the others.
