TRIANGE – A 25-year-old Triangle woman who flung her two minor daughters into a water canal before attempting suicide in a shock incident last week, has appeared in court facing murder.
Blessing Chiromonye was arraigned before the Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court for the heinous crime.
Prosecutors alleged that on Wednesday 8 January, Chiromonye threw her two daughters, aged 4 and 8, into the main water canal in Triangle, resulting in their death.
“The accused person tried to commit suicide by jumping into the canal but was thrown out by the water. She went home and changed her wet clothes and tried to flee.
“The driver of the commuter omnibus she took was tipped about what had transpired and drove the accused person back. A police report was made, leading to her arrest,” read a Monday statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).
Chiromonye was remanded in custody to 23 January 2025.
Meanwhile, in another sad incident involving drowning, a two-year-old minor drowned after he accidently fell into an open pit meant for the construction of a septic tank at a house in Harare’s Waterfalls suburb on Sunday.
Police confirmed the incident which happened as the infant was playing playing at a neighbour’s house.
His body was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital for post-mortem.
