BULAWAYO – A woman who claimed to have lost $100,000 belonging to the singer Sandra Ndebele while hitch-hiking has been convicted of filing a false police report, a court heard on Wednesday.
This was disclosed as Lindiwe Moyo, 48, of Emganwini, was charged with defrauding the Lizwile star.
Prosecutors say Moyo and two other suspects Amanda Onwuchukwu and Simanga Gwemende, who have gone on the run, hatched a plan to swindle Ndebele by misrepresenting that they could secure foreign currency for her.
Moyo led police on a wild goose chase after walking into West Nicholson Police Station on October 12 and reporting that she had lost $100,000 after a car which had given her a lift from Beitbridge drove off with a bag containing the money during a recess in Colleen Bawn.
“The report was later proved to be false and Moyo was charged and convicted for making a false police report. As a result of Moyo’s actions, Ndebele suffered actual prejudice of $100,000 and nothing was recovered,” prosecutor Mufaro Mageza told the Bulawayo Magistrates Court.
Magistrate Adelaide Mbeure remanded Moyo to December 14 on $300 bail.
