BULAWAYO – Police in Bulawayo have arrested 20-year-old Roylene Ncube, a city resident, for allegedly aborting her pregnancy and later discarding the foetus at a dump site.

The foetus was discovered on the 4th of February by an unidentified woman who had observed some flies encircling it while walking along a foot path near the dump site.

Police provincial spokesperson for Bulawayo, Inspector Abednico Ncube said the foetus, which was in a decomposing state, was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary for post-mortem.

“On 08 February 2023, police received a tip-off to the effect that the accused unlawfully terminated the pregnancy and went on to dump the foetus at the dumping site,” Ncube said.

“The police proceeded to her place of residence, interviewed the same and she admitted to the allegations leading to her arrest.”

Ncube implored parents and guardians to provide support to youths who fall pregnant.

“We are urging members of the police to accept the reality that might have fallen on them and seek assistance from elders or relatives.

“We also encourage parents and communities to support the youth when they find themselves pregnant so as not to push them from terminating pregnancies.”
