HARARE – Zimbabwe music heavyweights Winky D and Jah Prazyah are billed to perform at the inaugural Africa Musical Festival headlined by a performance by Chimurenga music legend Thomas Mapfumo in the United Kingdom.
Also part of the mouth-watering line up of performers are Selmor Mtukudzi and Mambo Dhuterere.
The show is being organised by Y2K Entertainment.
The promoter’s director Alex Mapara said preparations for the August gig are progressing smoothly.
“Preparations for the festival are going well. This is the launch of the Africa Music Festival and the only one branded as such,” said Mapara.
“What we would like to achieve is to have various artists representing other African nations for the event to be more inclusive.
“So, we started with the tried and tested artists and market and that’s why the line-up has Zimbabwean artists we have all worked with before.”
Mapara said the festival, dubbed “Legends Tour” will be explosive.
“We are inspired by the legendary theme hence Dr Thomas Mapfumo, Winky D, Jah Prayzah, and Selmor Mtukudzi who also represent Tuku and Manatsa music. So, her inclusion was a no-brainer,” he said.
“Mambo Dhuterere gives us some spirituality and we need it given the huge task we have.”
He added that fans should expect a good time at the festival.
“Excellence comes as standard; that’s our motto and people should expect that and to have a memorable event that is very hard to repeat. We hope this will go down as one of our classic events.”
Jah Prayzah recently launched two albums titled “Chiremerera” and “Maita Baba”, making history by launching two albums over two days and in two cities.
On the other hand, Winky D, underlined his profile as one of the most prominent musicians from Zimbabwe when he scooped the Best African Dancehall Entertainer award at the 40th International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA).
