HARARE – Veteran journalist Simba Rushwaya died on Wednesday aged 49, colleagues said.
Rushwaya, who recently joined Manica Post, succumbed to colon cancer at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
He worked for various other media organisations including the Zimbabwe Mirror, The Daily News, NewsDay, New Zimbabwe.com and ZimLive.
Manica Post Editor Cletus Mushanawani said: “We have lost a veteran journalist who contributed a lot for the three months that we were with him. We are still at a loss of words to describe his sudden departure. We want to convey our deepest condolences to the Rushwaya family.”
The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists said Rushwaya was “a professional and respectful individual who worked across various media houses in Zimbabwe, mostly as a sports journalist.”
“His distinguished career also saw him being chosen as the secretary-general of the Sports Writers’ Association of Zimbabwe from 2000 to 2003,” ZUJ said.
