MUTARE – Former police detective and triple murder suspect Jaison Muvevi is now in the hands of Zimbabwean authorities who brought him from Mozambique where he was Monday apprehended by civilians and handed to the neighbouring country’s police.
Muvevi is accused of shooting and killing self-styled Johanne Masowe prophet at a shrine in Wedza Friday before turning the gun on the Officer in Charge Wedza police station and a bartender at a business centre in the area same afternoon.
The slain victims were identified by police as Crispen Mubvana Kanerusine, 62, of Zinzombe Village, Wedza; Inspector Maxwell Hove, 43, of ZRP Wedza Camp and Munashe Mujanhi, 20, of Mujanhi Village, Wedza.
He also shot and critically injured Detective Constable Tendai Mugova who had joined the attempt to arrest him for killing his first victim.
Muvevi, who is understood to be a gold dealer, on Sunday staged his mercurial escape from pursuing police and soldiers who had joined forces to track him down.
But that was not all about his dangerous adventure.
While in Mutare, the fugitive also allegedly shot and narrowly missed a school caretaker’s son.
His luck finally ran out Monday when he was apprehended by some civilians just after crossing into Mozambique.
The murder suspect has been brought back into the country after Mozambican authorities had initially chosen to keep him to face the crime of illegally possessing a firearm.
Muvevi, who was pictured wearing a smile while in cuffs at Mutare police CID, was set to be taken to CID Marondera which is handling his offences.
