HARARE – League leaders Simba Bhora extended their lead at the top of the premiership standings by 9 points after powering to a 2-0 defeat of Chegutu Pirates in a March Day 27 midweek fixture played at Wadzanai Stadium on Wednesday.
The Shamva-based outfit was done a favour by fellow title contenders FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum who both drew their fixtures by identical 1-1 margins away to Green Fuel at Green Fuel Arena and Bulawayo Chiefs at Luveve respectively.
In other fixtures, inconsistent Highlanders put behind their worries about their abortive Chibuku Super Cup clash with Simba Bhora last weekend to dismiss neighbours Arenel Movers 2-0 at Barbourfields Stadium.
The story was not the same with fellow giants Caps United who were beaten 2-0 by Hwange at the Colliery.
Yadah were 1-0 victors over Herentals at Heart Stadium while Manica Diamonds fell to visiting ZPC Kariba by 1-0 at Sakubva.
But the surprise story of the day goes to TelOne who thrashed Bikita Minerals 6-1 at Ascot.
Following Week 27 of the Zimbabwe premiership race, Simba Bhora look set to run away with their maiden title as they sit comfortably on top of the league standings with 56 points to their industry.
FC Platinum are second on 47 while defending champions Ngezi Platinum are third on 42, although they have two games in hand. Manica Diamonds, also on 42 points, are positioned fourth.
League giants Highlanders are fifth on 41 points, Caps United are seventh on 37 with Dynamos ninth on 35 although with two games at hand.
