HARARE – A 23-year-old woman arrested for allegedly smuggling sex toys and selling some to children has been granted bail after 15 days of pre-trial incarceration.
Ayanda Unity Mponda had been denied bail by a Harare magistrate who said she was a danger to society.
On Monday, she tasted freedom for the first time since May 15 when Justice Esther Muremba of the Harare High Court ordered her released on Z$30,000 bail.
She was also ordered to report to the police twice weekly.
Mponda, who is represented by Harare lawyer Zorodzai Dumbura, denies charges she sold her toys to children.
Prosecutors have charged her with violating provisions of the Customs and Excise Act and exposing children to pornographic material.
Using the name @ayiie_juicy, Mponda has 18,000 followers on Tik Tok, 11,000 on Instagram, 28,000 followers on Twitter and almost 6,000 friends and followers on Facebook.
On Twitter, she describes herself as a “masturbation advocate, sex coach and your sex toys, bedroom tools plug.”
On Facebook, she says she “sells sex toys for a living” adding that “female and male sex toys all available in Harare CBD.”
She gives her business address as 6th and Nelson Mandela in Harare and markets her products using sexually explicit language while cross-posting on her social media pages.
Her arrested triggered outrage online with her supporters demanding her release.
