HARARE – THE Premier Soccer League on Thursday announced the postponement of weekend football matches due to the tense political situation currently obtaining in the country.

In its statement, the PSL said they will announce the dates of the matches in due course.

Protests by opposition supporters in Harare ended with six people dead after soldiers opened fire. Presidential election results were due to be announced on

In another development, Caps United registered former Chicken Inn midfielder Thabani Goredema on transfer deadline day on Tuesday.

The midfielder who was on the books of Chicken Inn is one of the new arrivals registered by the Green Machine just before the close of the transfer window on Tuesday.

The former Caps United midfielder reportedly asked to be released by the Gamecocks after expressing his wish to rejoin the Harare football giants.

He was granted his wish and coach Lloyd Chitembwe did not waste time as he immediately took him on board.

Goredema who had a good working relationship with Chitembwe before he moved to Bulawayo was registered along with former Kaizer Chiefs forward Mitchell Katsvairo.

The Green Machine were also expected to resign Dominic Chungwa who was said to be holding talks with Chitembwe.

However, the deal failed to materialise with reports suggesting the two parties failed to agree on some issues leaving the Harare giants with only two additions to their side during this transfer window period.

Chitembwe’s men were scheduled to take on army side Black Rhinos at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday but with the weekend matches having been cancelled, it presents them with an opportunity to fine tune the squad.

Caps United have been struggling to score since the start of the second half of the season and failed to get a single goal in their last three matches against Harare City, Bulawayo Chiefs and FC Platinum after playing out goalless draws in all those matches.

United are pushing to have a good second half of the season as they still have mathematical chances of laying their hands on the ultimate prize of domestic football.

They sit 14 points behind FC Platinum and 12 adrift of Ngezi Platinum Stars and having acquired two more senior players, they are looking into the future with a lot of optimism.

At some point, it looked like it will just be a two horse-race between the platinum miners but with Ngezi Platinum going on a four-match losing streak as well as FC Platinum going winless in their last three matches, opportunities seem to be opening up perhaps for the likes of Makepekepe, Chicken Inn, Highlanders and Triangle.

For Caps United, they are aware a victory against Black Rhinos will give them a psychological boost in their bid to fight for a strong finish.
