HARARE – Police have arrested and charged with attempted murder, two night club bouncers who went berserk on Unity Day and started attacking patrons and fighting other bouncers at a popular Harare joint in an incident that was caught on video.
The burly pair, Gideon Sanyangore, 32, and Blessing Kumunda, 36, is set to appear in court this Friday.
Police confirmed the arrest Thursday via their official social media handles.
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of the two bouncers, Gideon Sanyangore (32) and Blessing Kumunda (36), whose video clip went viral on social media while attacking patrons with one of the suspects openly brandishing a knife at Pabloz Night Club, Sam Levy Village, Borrowdale, on 22/12/22.
“Police have since recovered the knife used in the commission of the crime. The suspects, who are facing attempted murder charges, will appear in court soon,” police said.
Pabloz Night Club management said one of the upmarket joint’s security staff suffered stab wounds during the brawl.
The skirmishes were reportedly triggered by an attempt by fellow bouncers to stop the pair from entering the club.
The men, according to police, have previously been arrested for violence.
Sanyangore, who also works as a club bouncer, was arrested for assault during a Chris Martin show in Harare October this year.
He was later convicted and ordered to perform some hours of community service.
Police said they were also contacting other stations to consolidate the dockets of the pair’s outstanding cases.
