HARARE – Second placed Ngezi Platinum beat Bulawayo Chiefs 1-0 to clip to five points, their points difference with log leaders Highlanders who dropped points in a goalless affair away to ZPC Kariba, in two Castle Lager Match Day 18 premiership clashes played Saturday.

In the match played at Baobab, Tinotenda Murasiranwa’s strike soon after the resumption of the second half compounded Chiefs’ woes and ensured the Mhondoro Ngezi side remains in the title chase.

Ngezi were returning from their 1-0 defeat suffered in the hands of Highlanders last Sunday.

In other Match Day 18 clashes played Saturday, FC Platinum’s demise continued after they suffered yet another defeat to Simba Bhora who humiliated the defending champions in front of their home fans by beating them 2-1.

Former champions Chicken Inn were also humiliated by Sheasham, who beat the Bulawayo side 1-0 at Luveve.

Green Fuel also continued with their fine recovery after beating Yadah 2-0 at Gibbo.

Following Saturday’s round of Match Day 18 fixtures, Highlanders still top the standings on 38 points, followed by Ngezi who are now on 33.

Manica Diamonds remain on number three with 29 points from 17 games played while Dynamos are positioned number four with 28 points to their name after 17 matches.

Chicken Inn, who are tied on 28 points with Dynamos, kept their number five spot despite losing on Saturday while FC Platinum are a far cry from their recent campaigns as they sit on number six with 26 points from 18 matches played.

Match Day 18 of the premiership race continues this Sunday with Dynamos hoping to continue from their 5-1 drubbing of Yadah last week to register victory against Hwange at Barbourfields.

Manica Diamonds would also be hoping to protect their number three spot when they host struggling former champions Caps United at Baobab.

The clash between Herentals College and Triangle at Mandava completes Week 18 of the premiership round of fixtures.
