HARARE – Information, Broadcasting and Publicity minister Jenfan Muswere has slammed war veteran Blessed Geza for alleged grandstanding adding that protests being called for March 31 by the sabre-rattling former combatant are going to be quashed.
Geza, a veteran Zanu PF politician hardly known to many before, became prominent when he launched a fierce campaign recently against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s bid to extend his term of office beyond 2028, when the incumbent’s second and final term expires.
A staunch disciple of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. Geza vanished nearly a month ago after holding press conferences rubbishing Mnangagwa.
Police say they are keen to arrest the outspoken politician for allegedly undermining Mnangagwa and inciting violence.
Geza resurfaced on social media this week urging citizens to invade the streets on March 31 for push for Mnangagwa’s exit.
In a half-hour long “State of the Nation Address” he posted on YouTube and X (Twitter), Geza, who was decked out in military gear, said the planned demonstration was “not even a protest but an uprising.”
He said Zimbabweans should feel aggrieved by Mnangagwa’s corrupt leadership and should heed his call for demonstrations.
But in a statement on Thursday, Muswere accused Geza of fanning disunity in the country adding that his call for protests should be ignored.
“Law enforcement agents are on high alert, ready to deal with anyone attempting to cause despondency within the country’s borders, and no iota of imagination will create disunity within the leadership, both in government and in the ruling party Zanu PF,” he said.
Muswere urged citizens to ignore Geza’s ‘rumblings’.
“He and his team have no moral nor legal authority to speak on behalf of anyone. They are divisionalists and factionalists hell-bent on sowing seeds of division, but all their efforts will not bear fruit. He is a fugitive from justice and will not be long before his inflammatory statements are dealt with.
“He is a self-serving individual falsely claiming to speak on behalf of the veterans of the liberation struggle, and his rants are nothing but hallucinations. Mr. Geza and his partners in crime cannot rewrite Zimbabwe’s history.
“Zimbabweans are encouraged to ignore Geza’s delusional ramblings. His polemic and reactionary grandstanding are a clear misdirection of ambition,” Muswere said.
Geza is believed to be exiled in South Africa.
