HARARE – MDC deputy president Elias Mudzuri has been publicly confronted by some of the party’s MPs after he attended a meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House on Monday.

Mnangagwa met parliament’s presiding officers at State House, led by Speaker Jacob Mudenda and Senate President Mabel Chinomona.

Mudzuri, the MDC’s leader in the Senate, surprisingly also attended even as the party has refused to recognise Mnangagwa as President.

Only last Thursday, MDC MPs were kicked out of Parliament for “disrespect” after they did not stand up when Mnangagwa walked in for the 2019 budget presentation by Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube.

“You’re endorsing Mnangagwa!” Kuwadzana MP Charlton Hwende told Mudzuri in the animated confrontation captured on video.

Harare Central MP Murisi Zvizai reminded Mudzuri of how MDC MPs were violently removed from Parliament by police over Mnangagwa, and wondered why Nelson Chamisa’s deputy had not consulted before going to State House.

Zanu PF will milk the propaganda opportunity, and cite the incident as an endorsement of Mnangagwa by the MDC which maintains that Chamisa was robbed of an election victory on July 30.
