HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has fired Industry and Commerce deputy minister Roy Bhila from government, hardly three months after he was elevated to the lofty job.
This was announced in a statement Thursday by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Martin Rushwaya.
“His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr Emmerson D Mnangagwa has, in terms of Section 108(1a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 20) Act, removed Honourable Roy Bhila from the Office of Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce with immediate effect,” Rushwaya said.
Bhila was elected Zanu PF legislator for Chiredzi North in 2018.
He retained the seat in the August 23, 2023 harmonised elections.
The Zanu PF politician becomes the first government minister to be sacked since Mnangagwa reconstituted his cabinet in September this year.
