HARARE – Michael Nees arrived in Harare on Wednesday to start work as Zimbabwe’s new national football team coach.

The 57-year-old German was appointed in July on a two-year contract but work permit delays ensured he only arrived after three weeks.

Nees will be unveiled by the Zimbabwe Football Association on Thursday and immediately begin the task of putting together a team for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Kenya on September 6 and Cameroon on September 10.

Both matches will be played at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda, as the country still has no CAF-approved venue to host international matches.

Nees is familiar with African football after stints with Rwanda and Seychelles as coach, and a spell with South Africa as technical adviser.
