BULAWAYO – Highlanders midfielder Melikhaya Ncube has clinched the premiership league leaders’ inaugural club player-of-the-month award plus a US$400 windfall accompanying the accolade.
The event was sponsored by prominent Bulawayo businessman Phathisani Nkomo in collaboration with some fellow business colleagues and Friends of Bosso (BFB).
Speaking after receiving the award at a ceremony held at the flamboyant city bar, East68 in Bulawayo’s EMatshamhlophe suburb, Ncube expressed delight with the honour.
“I am very happy for the whole team because I would not have achieved this without the guys, and special thanks to coach (Highlanders) Kaindu,” Ncube said.
“He brings out the best in us as a team and last but importantly to the fans and stakeholders that have put this award together, thank you so much.”
Club head coach Kelvin Kaindu praised East68 and Bosso friends for rewarding the team’s efforts saying it will go a long way towards lifting the morale of the team which now tops the league table with five games played into the 2024 football season.
“We would like to appreciate the new sponsor that has come abroad for the player of the month,” said Kaindu.
“We are so grateful as a team; this is a motivation and we will make sure that we continue winning and we celebrate the player that has been given this award because he has worked very hard.”
Highlanders CEO Sihlangu Dlodlo rallied unity and focus among the club faithful as he also took time to laud Ncube and the entire team’s industry.
“Well done Melikhaya. Thumbs up and keep it up.
“To our coach, you are doing a very good job and we will love and respect you because we see the difference.”
