HARARE – Suspected drug peddler, Simbarashe Chanachimwe, best known as Dhama in places he operates from, has been granted ZW$50,000 bail.
The Zanu PF activist was arrested Wednesday and briefly appeared before Mbare magistrate Rangarirayi Gakanje Thursday charged with unlawful possession of drugs.
As part of his bail conditions, Chanachimwe was ordered to continue residing at his given address and to report to the police once every fortnight.
Chanachimwe was on the police wanted list since the time police launched its nationwide blitz against drug peddlers.
Police launched a raid at his Mbare home and recovered 26 sachets of dagga as well as one plant of mbanje measuring 1,7 metres.
He is represented by his lawyer Tafadzwa Hungwe.
The complainant in the matter is the state represented by Paul Chamunorwa Chiwawa.
Chanachimwe’s arrest follows a recent Zimbabwe Republic Police blitz against illicit drug abuse led by the Drugs and Narcotics unit.
On Wednesday, a section of officers under the Police Reaction Group that was led by Inspector Kamusoni joined forces with the police Dog Section team led by Assistant Inspector Murewa and ZRP Matapi under Inspector Chiripanyanga to raid Dhama’s drug base at an open space near Mbare’s Matapi Flats.
The base is known in the area as PaDhama.
According to court papers, a search was conducted at the swampy area and Detective Sergeant Chiwawa found a bucket hidden in the swamp with 27 sachets of loose dagga.
A dagga plant approximately 1,7 meters was also discovered by Detective Constable Karomo who uprooted it, with Dhama having left the area.
The exhibit, which weigned 50 grammes, was taken to Matapi Police Station.
