HARARE – A man was arrested on Saturday after leading police on a high-speed chase in Harare that ended with the discovery of a dead man’s head in his car.
The man has not been named but police believe the head could solve the puzzle of a body of a man found in a disused toilet at the corner of Lytton and Parsley Roads in Workington on Friday.
The body had been dismembered and was missing a head.
Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said earlier on Saturday, a man reported that his Fun Cargo vehicle had been stolen. The car owner, who lives in Warren Park, told police he had hired a man to drive the vehicle for the purpose of transporting a door, but the hired driver had vanished with his vehicle.
Police officers manning a roadblock in Belvedere later flagged down a Fun Cargo, but the driver took off.
Pursuing police officers finally stopped the car after it collided with two other vehicles.
But nothing could have prepared the police officers, however, for the chilling discovery of a dead man’s head in the boot of the vehicle.
The man is set to be hit with several charges including murder, vehicle theft, failing to stop for the police and reckless driving for causing an accident with the two other cars.
