KWEKWE – In a bizarre incident, a 23-year-old Kwekwe man cut his own privates with a knife after allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl.
The man, who was not named in a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), was dragged before a Gweru magistrate facing rape.
The court was told that sometime this month at around 3PM, the alleged rapist dragged the minor into an unfinished building telling her he wanted to have sex with her.
He allegedly threatened to kill her if she screamed for attention.
“He then removed her clothes before allegedly raping her. The accused person only stopped when he heard a voice calling the complainant’s name,” said the NPAZ.
“On the 14th of September 2024 at around 8PM, the accused person cut off his manhood with a knife whilst screaming that the complainant was his wife.
“The matter came to light when the complainant confided in her grandmother about the offence.”
During court hearing, the NPAZ made an application for the suspect to be examined by two doctors in terms of the Mental Health Act and the application was granted.
He was remanded from a hospital bed in Gweru where he is receiving medical attention.
He will next appear in court on 8 October 2024.
