CHEGUTU – A 40-year-old man brutally struck and killed his wife with an axe before taking his own life in an incident that has shocked a community in Chikari, Chegutu.
In a short statement, police named the murder accused as Watson Musika and his victim as Shiellah Utete.
The incident happened Friday last week.
“The ZRP is investigating a case of murder which occurred on 5 July 2024 at around 3PM in which Shiellah Utete, 32, died,” police said.
“Watson Musika, 40, allegedly struck his ex-wife, the victim, with an axe on the neck, shoulder and on the head in a bush near Maldon Compound, Chikari, Chegutu.
“The suspect consumed suspected cyanide and was found lying lifeless inside a kitchen at his residence.”
Police did not give further details on what caused the misunderstanding.
In another sad incident involving murder, a 16-year-old Karoi girl who went missing in March was found dead in a bush on Thursday.
Police confirmed investigating “a case of murder in which the remains of a female juvenile,16, were found in a bush near Gremlin Farm, Karoi on 4 July 2024”.
The girl had gone missing on 18 March this year on her way from school.
Meanwhile, police in Harare say they are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of Eneresi Steni, 24, which occurred near a power line in Mabvuku, Harare on 4 July 2024.
“The victim was found lying lifeless and naked, with deep cuts all over the body,” police said while appealing for information from the public that could help in their investigation of the matter.
