BULAWAYO – Unbeaten Highlanders returned to the top of the Castle Lager Premiership log standings with a 1-0 beating of visiting Triangle FC in a Match Day 14 clash played in front of a bumper crowd at Barbourfields Stadium this Sunday.
Andrew Mbeba got the priceless goal from a set piece after 53 minutes into the match to affirm the Bulawayo giants’ strong challenge for the 2023 premiership title.
The home side dominated the whole match particularly in the first half when they had many opportunities to bury their opponents.
Triangle did not trouble their hosts and had few chances in enemy territory to cause any harm.
Bosso took advantage of Ngezi Platinum’s goalless draw against Sheasham at Bata Stadium same afternoon to take their points tally to 28, one ahead of the platinum miners.
In other matches played Sunday, Hwange scored two goals in either half to beat 10-men ZPC Kariba by a 2-1 score line at the Colliery.
ZPC Kariba got their goal after 38 minutes into the clash.
At Gibbo Stadium, Green Fuel and Chicken Inn shared the spoils after battling to a 1-1 draw.
Both goals were scored in the second half.
The match between Simba Bhora and Manica Diamonds at Baobab ended goalless.
Following Week 14 of the current premiership marathon, Highlanders top the standings on 28 points.
Ngezi Platinum are second on 27 while reigning champions FC Platinum are sitting on number three with 25 points.
Manica Diamonds and Dynamos are fourth and fifth with 23 and 22 points respectively.
