BULAWAYO – Football giants Highlanders edged visiting Simba Bhora 1-0 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Match Day 3 clash played Friday at Barbourfields stadium to move to second spot on the league ladder.
A strike by Melikhaya Ncube with just six minutes left on the referee’s watch was all that was needed by the Bulawayo club to decide the clash.
Ncube got the goal after being set up by substitute Wilson Mensah.
Following the victory, the Kelvin Kaindu coached football outfit now has seven points from three games.
In another clash played at Rufaro stadium on Friday, Dynamos were held to a goalless draw by Yadah to continue with their less inspiring start to their 2024 premiership campaign.
Dembare, who lost 1-0 to Highlanders in their opening match and drew 2-2 against Hwange in their second game, is yet to win a premiership match from their three attempts this season.
Fans endured long waits in meandering queues to gain entry into the stadium.
In the third match played on Friday, unpredictable Hwange suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Bulawayo Chiefs at the Colliery.
Following Match Day 3 round of midweek fixtures, FC Platinum top the league table on 7 points.
They are tied on the same number of points with Highlanders who however have an inferior goal difference.
Green Fuel, Chicken Inn, ZPC Kariba occupy third, fourth and fifth spots respectively all with five points to their credit.
Struggling giants Caps United and Dynamos are positioned numbers 11 and 13 respectively.
Caps United lost to Bikita Minerals on Thursday.
