JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Zimbabwean singer Sha Sha has told of her delight after she bagged a nomination for the 2020 BET Awards.

Nominations for the annual event, which celebrates music, film, acting and sports excellence by athletes and artists of color, were revealed Monday. The awards are organised by Black Entertainment Television, the most prominent television network targeting African American audiences in the United States.

“I’m out of words, did not see this coming at all,” the ‘Tender Love’ star gushed on Twitter.

The 26-year-old has been nominated in the category of Viewers’ Choice: Best New International Artist.

“Honestly, I’m just grateful, thankful, excited, numb just a whole lot of emotions. The mere fact that I’m nominated man! This is amazing! I need you all more than ever to bring this home,” she added on Twitter, asking for her fans to vote for her.

This year’s ceremony marks the 20th anniversary of the event and BET’s 40th anniversary. Comedian Amanda Seales is set to host the show, which will air on Sunday, June 28.

Sha Sha will go up against Nigeria’s Rema; Celeste from the United Kingdom, Hatik from France, Young T & Bugsey from the United Kingdom and Stacy of France.

Sha Sha’s smash hit, Tender Love, has been one of the top-ranked songs this year in South Africa after she collaborated with producers Maphorisa and Kabza De Small.

She also features on the smash hit ‘Akulaleki’ by Samthing Soweto, and on MFR Souls’ ‘Love You Tonight’ which were both produced by Maphorisa and Kabza De Small.

Sha Sha has also received generous airplay with ‘Emazulwini’. She also features on ‘We Mama’ on Maphorisa and Kabza De Small’s Scorpion Kings EP, and Mlindo the Vocalist’s hit, ‘Nge Thanda Wena’.

Born Charmaine Shamiso Mapimbiro in Bulawayo, Sha Sha grew up in Mutare and spent her early years as a background singer and featured vocalist before gaining the courage to break free as a solo artist.
