HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Thursday sacked the deputy lands and agriculture minister Douglas Karoro after he was arrested for alleged corruption.
Misheck Sibanda, the chief secretary to the president and cabinet said Karoro was dismissed for “conduct inappropriate for a deputy minister.”
Karoro was arrested last week accused of stealing fertiliser and maize seed from the Grain Marketing Board which he allegedly sold on the open market.
Karoro appeared in court and was released on bail.
Meanwhile, Munesushe Munodawafa has been removed from his position as the permanent secretary in the ministry of environment and tourism and replaced with Raphael Tayerera Faranisi, a former diplomat.
Mnangagwa said Munodawafa – a long-time serving permanent secretary previously at the transport ministry – would be “reassigned within government service in due course.”
