HARARE – Struggling premiership giants CAPS United, Dynamos and Highlanders renew their hopes of landing a piece of silverware this season after they were Thursday drawn against what appears to be easy opponents for their 2024 Chibuku Super Cup assignments.
According to the draw, CAPS United face Bikita Minerals while defending champions Dynamos take on ZPC Kariba with Highlanders also dating Green Fuel in their quest to restore lost glory.
The traditional giants of the domestic game seem to be losing ground in the race to land the premiership title this season and have the Chibuku Cup as their last hope of clinching a trophy.
In other first round fixtures, league leaders FC Platinum will know their opponents after league minnows TelOne and Arenel Movers clash in one of the two preliminary round matches to be played on August 7, 2024.
Manica Diamonds will also know their opponents after another preliminary round clash between Chegutu Pirates and Hwange.
In-form Simba Bhora have a date with unpredictable Herentals while 2023 losing finalists Ngezi Platinum face a lukewarm Bulawayo Chiefs.
Chicken Inn will also have to see off a challenge by a resurgent Yadah before they can entertain hopes of progressing to the next round.
The first round matches are set for the weekend of August 17-18 while the quarter finals will be played on September 21 and 22, 2024.
Semi-finals have been scheduled for 26 and 27 October 2024 while the final will be played on November 30, 2024.
Sponsored to the tune of US$375,000, the Chibuku Super Cup is the richest knockout competition in the country.
Winners of the trophy will pocket US$75,000 prize money and also earn a ticket to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup next year.
