JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – CAPS United speed merchant Gabriel Nyoni has signed for South African club Maritzburg United for an undisclosed fee, less than a season after leaving Highlanders for the Harare club.

Maritzburg made the announcement on their Twitter feed on Wednesday, telling their fans: “The club is delighted to announce the signing of Gabriel Nyoni. The Zimbabwean winger joins the Team of Choice on a permanent deal.”

The 27-year-old striker thanked Highlanders and CAPS United for helping him on his way to what could be a breakthrough move.

“I have officially joined Maritzburg United,” he excitedly announced on Twitter. “Thank you CAPS United fans, thank you Highlanders fans and every Zimbabwean football fan. Beginning of more hard work. Asisebenze. Friday nights will never be the same. Harry Gwala Stadium.”

Nyoni has scored five goals and made three assists since the start of the season, attracting the attention of the South African ABSA Premier League side who first invited him for trials.
