BULAWAYO – Former Steward Bank CEO Lance Mambondiani has been named as the managing director and CEO of BancABC Zimbabwe.
Mambondinai told ZimLive on Tuesday that he was excited to join the bank which has a footprint in several African markets.
“It’s now time for me to take on a fresh challenge and I’m very excited to begin a new chapter with BancABC and the Atlas Mara Group,” said the United Kingdom-trained banker who will begin his new job on July 1.
BancABC, in a statement, said current managing director Joseph Sibanda would be retiring in August.
The bank said Mambondiani brings “a combination of skills in financial markets, investment banking, retail banking delivery channels, private wealth management, corporate finance, business law, development finance and economics.”
“His mandate as he joins us at this critical time is to lead BancABC into its next growth phase and reposition the bank as a premier financial services provider in Zimbabwe,” ABC Holdings CEO Sanjeev Anand said.
Mambondiani, relishing the new challenge, said BancABC had an “incredible heritage in the Zimbabwean banking sector, along with a passion to offer simplified, digital banking solutions and partnerships in several African markets, a model that greatly appeals to me.”
“In joining this highly motivated and energetic team, I believe that together, we can achieve our collective ambitions of developing a new banking model in Zimbabwe and across Africa for the benefit of our customers,” he said.
Mambondiani resigned from the Econet-owned Steward Bank on May 31.
