HARARE – A former Air Force of Zimbabwe technician and Central Intelligence Organisation agent owes $126,000 in child support arrears, a court heard on Wednesday.
Shupikai Vito, of Mbare in Harare, was ordered by the High Court in 2008 to pay 50 percent of school fees per term for his two minor children with Engeline Zacharia.
“In default order, Vito has defaulted paying 50 percent of the school fees from 2008 to date and has not paid a single cent towards school fees,” prosecutor Sebastian Mutizirwa told the Harare Magistrates Court.
Vito, who faces charges for defauting on a court child maintenance order, was remanded to November 7 on free bail by Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.
The $125,946.97 is thought to be the biggest child support debt to ever come before a court in Zimbabwe.
