HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa celebrated his 76th birthday on Saturday – with a car gift from his son, Emmerson Junior.
The Zanu PF leader was presented with a rare 1970 Mercedes Benz W114 250C.
Mnangagwa spent Saturday morning in his Munhumutapa office in central Harare, meeting family and friends.
In pictures posted on Twitter, he was also seen meeting one of his supporters, Alpha Media Holdings publisher Trevor Ncube, and the businessman and church leader Shingi Munyeza.
Prominent lawyer Fadzai Mahere said on Twitter: “Happy birthday @edmnangagwa. Thank you for not wasting tax resources by making it a national parade a la Mugabe. My prayer is that your administration strengthens its domestic policy so that ordinary people can live long and share in the dividends that a well-run Zimbabwe can provide.”
Mnangagwa, paranoid over recent security breaches, is however unlikely to enjoy his new ride, opting instead for the more secure Mercedes Benz S-Class limousine which cost the taxpayer an estimated $1 million.
