HARARE – Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) results into the 9-year-old girl’s pregnancy and child birth have revealed the Tsholotsho minor’s 13-year-old cousin to be the father of the child in what could yet be another shock case of the teenager becoming the country’s youngest father.
In a statement Saturday, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said DNA tests were conducted by the National University of Science and Technology.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) results obtained from National University of Science and Technology on 25th November 2022, in connection with the paternity of the 9 year old girl’s child have established that the victim’s cousin brother (13) is the father of the child.
“The 9 year old complainant and the suspect will now receive the appropriate counselling from the Police’s Victim friendly Unit (VFU).
“The police is now working with other relevant arms of the government to ensure that due processes of the law are followed.”
The girl’s father was being held by police on suspicions he was the one who abused the minor.
The girl, who was recently assisted into a caesarean birth to a live baby, became the country’s youngest mum ever.
However, her 13-year-old cousin could very easily also emerge as the country’s youngest father ever.
