HARARE – Fraud accused business partners, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu have been indicted for trial at the High Court’s Anti-Corruption Court where the hearing shall proceed over four continuous days.
The trial is in relation to a case in which the two allegedly forged a ZIMRA Tax clearance certificate and a NSSA compliance certificate in the name of their Blackdeck Private Limited and attached them to a bidding document which they submitted to the Lands Ministry for a tender which was meant for the supply and delivery of goats under the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme.
Their trial will run from October 1 to 4 on a continuous roll.
Anesu Chirenje told Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa on Wednesday that the State now has all the documents prosecutors need for trial to commence.
“We are ready to have the accused indicted for trial from the first to 4 October 2024 at the High Court,” he said.
Lawyers representing the two, Tapson Dzvetero and Ashiel Mugiya consented to the indictment.
Chimombe and Mpofu are accused of defrauding the state of over US$7 million in a botched presidential goat scheme.
They were denied bail last month and High Court judge is expected to hear the duo’s bail appeal this Thursday.
Mugiya said indictment does not stop bail proceedings.
