HARARE – An operations assistant at an orphanage in Harare appeared in court on Tuesday accused of raping a 13-year-old girl at the facility.
Lloyd Josamu, 31, of Adlyn Road in Marlborough was not asked to plead to one count of rape when he appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje.
He was released on free bail and remanded to February 2.
The court heard that Josamu, an operations assistant at the Shalom Children’s Home, summoned the alleged victim to his room sometime in January last year. She entered the room to find him watching pornography, said Ethel Mahachi for the prosecution.
He allegedly ordered the victim to touch him on his privates while caressing her body before raping her without using protection.
“He threatened the complainant not to disclose the matter to anyone, vowing that if she did he would have her removed from the children’s home. She kept quiet until January 22, 2024, when she attending counselling sessions which were organised at the children’s centre,” Mahachi said.
Josamu has been suspended from the orphanage.
