BULAWAYO – Chief Marupi of Dibilashaba in Gwanda South died suddenly on Sunday aged 28.
The traditional leader who was recently a victim of an armed robbery at his home was in Harare on official business when he was taken ill.
Gwanda district coordinator Nomathemba Ndlovu told the ZBC: “He died at Health Point Hospital in Harare after a short illness.”
The chief, real name Oaheng Nare, became Chief Marupi in 2012, succeeding his father Lawrence Nare who died in 2008.
Although installed in 2012, he had to wait two years until 2014 to assume the full reins when he turned 18.
He is survived by his wife Rorisang Tlou.
The chief’s death comes as police are still probing an armed robbery at his rural home on October 10 when he woke up to the sound of two masked gunmen storming his bedroom.
The robbers took R2,700 cash, two mobile phones and drove away in his official Isuzu vehicle only handed over to him in September by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
