HARARE – Former champions Chicken Inn did themselves a great favour by beating Hwange 1-0 at Luveve to level their points tally with table toppers Highlanders, who are on 15.
In a Match Day 8 clash played on Wednesday, the Bulawayo outfit, bolstered by last weekend’s defeat of neighbours Highlanders, scored through Brighton Makopa just few moments after the start of the match.
In other matches, Highlanders’ defensive frailties were exposed once again when they blew a 2-0 first half lead to allow hosts Herentals level scores and force a stalemate.
At Baobab, defending champions Ngezi Platinum continued on their self-dethroning mission when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Yadah in a match highlighted by Khama Billiat’s first goal since joining the Miracle Boys.
At Mandava stadium, FC Platinum were electrocuted by visiting ZPC Kariba in a clash that saw the power generators post a 1-0 triumph over the former champions.
Bikita Minerals beat Simba Bhora 1-0 to end Wednesday’s Match Day 8 round of premiership fixtures.
Following Wednesday’s fixtures, Highlanders still top the league standings on 15 points but have the advantage of a superior goal difference over Chicken Inn who also have the same number of points with 8 games played.
Simba Bhora are third on 13 points while FC Platinum, still with a game in hand, are fourth on 12.
Traditional giants Dynamos are number 9 on 9 points but have a game in hand.
Caps United, with two games in hand, are a distant 15th on 7 points.
Defending champions Ngezi Platinum are positioned number 13 on 8 points.
Match Day 8 continues this Thursday with Dynamos travelling to Baobab for a date with Chegutu Pirates.
Caps United host Green Fuel at Rufaro with the clash between Arenel Movers and Manica Diamonds at Luveve putting the lid on the mid-week fixtures.
