HARARE – Struggling Zimbabwe football giants Caps United and Highlanders posted victories while Dynamos played out a goalless draw in separate Premier Soccer League (PSL) Week 16 round of fixtures on Sunday.
In a match played at Rufaro Stadium, a double strike by William Manondo after 67 and 89 minutes saw Caps United beat Chegutu Pirates 2-1.
The premiership debutants got their face saver through Gift Mwinga after 75 minutes.
The clash was marred by scenes of violence after some Chegutu Pirates fans caused a long stoppage in the second half as they protested Manondo’s opening goal. Some of the fans were arrested as missiles rained onto the pitch.
At Barbourfields, Highlanders supporters heaved a sigh when they saw their team beat Hwange 1-0, courtesy of Marvin Sibanda goal after 58 minutes.
Highlanders had gone for six matches without a win.
Dynamos were held to a goalless draw by Manica Diamonds at Sakubva in an open game that saw the opponents miss several clearcut chances in front of goal.
Green Fuel were 1-0 victors over Yadah at Green Fuel Arena.
Following the weekend’s Match Day 16 round of matches, FC Platinum top the league standings on 34 points while Manica Diamonds are second on 31.
Ngezi Platinum and Simba Bhora are both on 27 points but the champions are third by virtue of a superior goal difference.
Highlanders and Caps United are fifth an sixth on 26 and 22 points respectively while Dynamos lie on number 9 on 21 points.
