BULAWAYO – Police in Bulawayo have moved to dismiss claims of a pedophile who is reportedly detaining young girls at his Mzilikazi home for sex.
This comes after a resident circulated an alarming message on social media this week alleging 42-year-old Dalubuhle Ngwenya was preying on young girls.
Residents also alleged Ngwenya could be into human trafficking.
“There is a man who stays at Barbourfields (BF) house number (mentioned) opposite BF creche Mzilikazi … near Mpilo hospital called Dalubuhle Ngwenya,” reads the message.
“Driving a blue Toyota Raum. He is using small schoolgirls and keeps them at his house and claims police will not do anything to him as he has connections within the police force.
“As we speak, he has 3 girls at his house. On June 26 when BF police raided his house, he made the other girls jump over to the neighbour’s house to escape.
“He promised to beat up the police. Let us rise up and help each to protect the girl child in Bulawayo.”
However, in a response, acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said investigations carried out by police revealed that Ngwenya could be a victim of a smear campaign by his wife.
Msebele said police found that Ngwenya was suddenly followed by the malicious claims when he started instituting divorce proceedings with his wife who was believably trying to soil his name.
“The two girls are known; one of them is a stepdaughter to Dalubuhle Ngwenya, meaning that she is a daughter to his ex-wife and once lived in that house and often comes to the house, ruling out the human trafficking offence.
“Efforts are being made to locate the two girls and according to reports done, the two teenagers are delinquents and mischievous.”
Msebele warned members of the public to desist from using social media to settle scores as this causes unnecessary public anxiety.
