HARARE – Talented striker Takunda Benhura scored a spellbinding 4 goals in just 90 minutes as Ngezi Platinum produced a ruthless display to beat visiting Hwane 6-0 in a rescheduled premiership clash played at Baobab on Saturday.
Benhura opened his scoring account with a header 16 minutes into the match with teenage star, Tanaka Munemo finding his first goal for the club 8 minutes later to double the champions’ advantage.
Obriel Chiringa made it 3 on the half hour mark with the home side heading to the half time breather leading 3-0.
But the three goals were not enough punishment for the struggling coal miners as Benhura took it upon himself to ensure the opponents had the longest trip back to their base in Hwange through goals scored after 61, 85 and 90 minutes in a sensational twist to a football league whose pedigree of prolific strikers have long retired from the game.
With the four goals, the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Golden Boot winner took his goal tally to 10, just 2 goals shy of joint leaders Willard Manondo, Khama Billiat and Lynoth Chikuhwa of Caps United, Yadah and Highlanders respectively.
The victory allowed Ngezi Platinum to jump two places up the league standings to number three on 46 points and still with a game in hand.
It will however take a miracle for the champions to catch runaway league leaders Simba Bhora who have amassed 60 points from 29 games fulfilled with only 5 games left to end the season.
Meanwhile, Dynamos play chicken inn at Rufaro in another rescheduled premiership clash on Sunday.
Ngezi Platinum and Dynamos fell behind on the fixtures schedule due to their recent commitment in international club competitions.
