BULAWAYO – A beer-drink outing in violation of Covid-19 regulations ended in tragedy when an 18-year-old Bulawayo man was knifed to death by his drinking partner over a girlfriend.
Siphesihle Moyo from Mpopoma suburb died Wednesday at Mpilo Hospital where he was rushed with stab wounds in the stomach and hand.
City police spokesperson Abednico Ncube confirmed the arrest of Bongani Ngulube, 20, in connection with the murder.
“The informant was drinking Best Whisky on the 3rd of February with the deceased and the accused at Bango Shops in violation of Covid19 regulations at 8 pm. As they left for their respective homes in Mpopoma suburb a dispute arose over a girlfriend,” Ncube said.
“The accused pulled out an Okapi knife and stabbed Moyo once below the abdomen, twice on the left hand, the lower and upper arm, cutting the intestines in the process before he fled the scene.”
Ncube said the matter was reported to the police just after midnight, adding officers managed to track down the suspect and take him into custody without incident.
He bemoaned murder cases in the city, calling on members of the public to seek the intervention of third parties to help settle personal differences.
