BULAWAYO – B-Metro news editor Lenin Ndebele has left the Bulawayo-based tabloid to join The Sunday Times of South Africa.

Ndebele, who joined B-Metro at its inception in 2009, has joined the Sunday Times as its Zimbabwe correspondent, and will also be writing for their online products including TimesLive.

The Sunday Times recruited Ndebele after losing its Zimbabwe bureau chief Ray Ndlovu, who has signed for Bloomberg.

Ndebele’s departure from B-Metro adds to the paper’s growing circulation problems, not helped by a high staff turnover.

The newspaper now has two full-time reporters and an editor, and Zimpapers bosses are said to be reluctant to fill the vacant position left by Ndebele.

“It’s an anomaly, that would be an editor for every reporter,” a Zimpapers source said, adding that they might consider retaining just the editor while recruiting one or two junior reporters.

B-Metro is one of Zimpapers’ two weekly metropolitan tabloids. H-Metro mainly circulates in Harare.
