BULAWAYO – Highlanders coach Madinda Ndlovu said he felt sorry for his players after they failed in their sixth attempt to win a Premier League match since the start of the new season.

Highlanders created several openings but failed to score as Hwange picked up a point at Barbourfields.

Tinashe Makanda saw a chance go begging after he failed to connect Andrew Mbeba’s cross from a freekick and Prince Dube shot over the bar as Highlanders pinned Hwange in a bright start to the match.

Mbekezeli Sibada had a shot blocked before MacClive’s inviting low drive into the box eluded everyone.

Despite their dominance, Highlanders could have been behind eight minutes before the break when Hwange were awarded a penalty. Gilbert Zulu was denied by Highlanders shot stopper Ariel Sibanda.

Bukhosi Sibanda headed over Highlanders’ best chance in the second half as a resilient Hwange held on.

Ndlovu, who is increasingly coming under pressure from the fans, acknowledged that scoring remained their biggest problem. He maintains that he does not question his players’ hunger to win.

“There’re things that cannot be explained. We were all watching the same match. When all aspects of the game are applied, the thing that matters most is putting the ball in the net, and we have not done that today. The type of football we played, that’s what I can give, but unfortunately scoring is an individual skill, it’s not something that you can train. If a team can create those kind of chances, but still come up with nothing, then its beyond my explanation,” Ndlovu said after the match.

“I feel for my boys. They wanted it more than anyone else, they pressed Hwange from the first whistle and when they walk away without anything, I really feel for them. But all is not over, all is not lost. I’m positive there are good things to come.”

Dynamos returned to winning ways in Harare as Munyaradzi Mawadza flicked in Ali Maliselo’s delivery from a freekick on the stroke of halftime to give new coach Tonderayi Ndiraya his first victory over ZPC Kariba at Rufaro.

Gabriel Nyoni scored the winner as CAPS United kept pace with leaders FC Platinum with a 1-0 victory over Harare City at the National Sports Stadium.

Brett Amidu scored the opener before Clive Augusto made certain of victory in the second half as Chicken Inn overcame Manica Diamonds at Gibbo Stadium.

League leaders and defending champions FC Platinum drew 0-0 with Herentals in Zvishavane on Saturday, inviting a chasing pack of CAPS United, Hwange, Chicken Inn and ZPC Kariba back into contention.
