HARARE – Police have announced a new policy for recruiting trainees, lowering the maximum age from 30 to 22.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said as a result of the policy changes, it had torn up a waiting list and will be inviting fresh applications.
Candidates must also have passed a Science subject at Ordinary Level, adding to the previous requirement of compulsory five O’ Level passes with a grade C or better including English and Maths. These should have been attained in a maximum two sittings.
ZRP national spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba added in a statement: “Potential police recruits are now required to be aged between 18-22 years old… In addition the applicants should have a good background with no criminal record and then go through the whole police internal selection process.”
Charamba said in light of the changes to the recruitment police, thousands of applications which were on a waiting list “have been dispensed with and will no longer be considered for any recruitment in the Zimbabwe Republic Police.”
The cash-strapped government has frozen new recruitment in the civil service, which has also affected the police, army, nursing and teaching professions.
