HARARE – Former information, posts and telecommunications minister Chenhamo Chakwezha Chimutengwende died aged 81 on Thursday, his family said.

He succumbed to chronic kidney disease, according to his son, Tawanda.

After graduating with a Master’s degree in Social Science and a PhD from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom, Chimutengwende returned home and became a Zanu PF MP for Mazowe in 1985. He would remain a lawmaker for the next 25 years, spending 14 of them as a cabinet minister.

He served as senator and deputy president of the Senate and was head of delegation for Zimbabwe to the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).
