HARARE – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has detained two officers after a viral social media video exposed them taking bribes from public transport vehicles near the Mabvuku turn-off along Harare-Mutare Road.
Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Sergeant Chifamba and Constable Gunzva, who now face both disciplinary and criminal charges.
“These are bad apples who do not deserve to be serving in the Police Service,” Nyathi said in a statement, stressing that the ZRP will not tolerate corruption within its ranks.
The incident has drawn widespread public scrutiny amid ongoing complaints of police misconduct.
Recently, officers stationed at the ZBC traffic lights along Beatrice Road were reported to be stopping motorists for minor violations, often taking control of their vehicles and directing them to Mbare Police Station, where they allegedly request bribes before allowing drivers to proceed.
Nyathi insists the Commissioner-General of Police is committed to upholding the law without fear or favor, emphasizing that corruption will not be tolerated within the police force. Kukurigo
