HARARE – Seven people were killed, five on the spot, on Thursday morning after a fuel tanker rammed into a kombi at a busy intersection in Harare’s Kuwadzana high density suburb on the Harare-Bulawayo road, police said.

The kombi overturned, ejecting several passengers.

Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesman, said five people died on the spot while six others were injured in the accident just after 5AM.

In a later update, he said the death toll had risen to seven after two more people succumbed to their injuries.

“The kombi had turned right into Bulawayo road in front of the oncoming fuel tanker,” Nyathi said.

He said the bodies of the victims were taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital whilst the injured are admitted at the same institution.
