Orapa United 1-0 Dynamos

(Match finished 1-1 on aggregate and Orapa won 3-1 after penalties]

GABORONE, Botswana – Dynamos were eliminated from the CAF Confederations Cup on Sunday after losing a penalty shootout to Botswana’s Orapa United at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown.

Dynamos, leading 1-0 from the first leg played at the same venue because Zimbabwe has no stadiums approved for international matches, missed a penalty after 21 minutes as Lesenya Malepela saved from Kevin Moyo.

The penalty decision came after Shadreck Nyahwa was brought down inside the box.

Dynamos would pay the penalty as Orapa levelled the tie when Frank Mukarati turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Ival Kamberipa, forcing a penalty shootout.

Temptation Chiwunga converted from the spot for Dynamos but watched as teammates Valentine Kadonzvo, Eli Ilunga, and Nomore Chinyerere all fluffed their lines.

Kesaobaka Thatanyane, Kagisanyo Mungu and Koketso Majafi all converted to settle the tie 3-1 on penalties and advance to the group stages which comes with a US$400,000 windfall.

Also through to the group stages are Zamalek of Egypt, Stade Malien of Mali, Moroccan side RSB Berkane, Lunda Sul of Angola, CS Constantine of Algeria, Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien, Simba Sports Club of Tanzania, South Africa’s Stellenbosch, Bravos do Maquis of Angola, Black Bulls of Mozambique, the DRC’s Enyimba, ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast, Egyptian side Al Masry, USM Alger of Algeria, and Jaraaf of Senegal.
