KAMPALA, Uganda – Zimbabwe’s senior men’s rugby team, the Sables, clinched the Rugby Africa Cup 2024 title with a commanding 29-3 victory over Algeria at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
Holding a 9-point lead at halftime, with the score at Zimbabwe 12-3 Algeria, the Sables demonstrated their dominance throughout the match. Captain Hilton Mudariki praised his team for their effort and dedication.
“This is a special moment. The boys have worked hard for this. We knew it would take all the 23 boys who played today and all the 28 boys who made their way to Uganda. We know everyone is going to improve for next year,” Mudariki said.
The Sables showcased their superiority, in stark contrast to their earlier performance against Uganda. Their well-executed strategy left Algeria with no room to maneuver.
Rugby Africa President Herbert Mensah presented the Rugby Africa Cup to the jubilant Zimbabwean team.
