Comoros 0-1 Zimbabwe
PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa – Michael Tapera scored his first goal for Zimbabwe as they overcame a battling Comoros in their COSAFA Cup opener in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.
The Manica Diamonds frontman was quickest to Farai Banda’s perfectly weighted cross from the left and finished with a side footed strike from close range.
The win was also his club coach Jairos Tapera’s first victory in three matches after taking charge on a cateraker basis. He lost the previous two to Lesotho and South Africa.
Zimbabwe are in Group B which also features Zambia and Kenya. Kenya beat Zambia 2-0 to lead the group.
Next up for Zimbabwe is Zambia on Sunday, and a win will secure the Warriors a place in the semi-finals.
