MAZOWE – A school teacher and a motor cyclist were both struck and killed by a police truck in Concession Saturday night with witnesses describing the police driver as reckless.

Witnesses said the killer driver caused the fatal incident as he was overtaking along a blind rise near Concession police camp in Mazowe.

The deceased teacher was named as Jeoffrey Sabau who works at Amandas Primary school in Mazowe. He was a pedestrian.

Sabau reportedly succumbed to the injuries while admitted at Concession Hospital.

School headmaster Thorpe Nyamukuvheni confirmed the incident.

“It’s a sad development that happened last night but as of now, details are sketchy and I can only refer you to the police for further details,” he said.

Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe could not give details saying he was attending a funeral while national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.

A witness to the accident said the police driver first struck the bike rider before his vehicle hit the teacher.

“The police truck, a Toyota Revo (Mazowe) was overtaking on a blind rise near the Concession police camp.

“The man who was hit was taken to the Concession Hospital by a lorry of well-wishers and died upon arrival at the hospital.

“He was a music teacher at Amandas primary school in Concession.

“The police driver was reckless,” he told ZimLive.
